Guarnaschelli gained her first food experiences while watching recipes she'd written in her mother's cookbooks being examined at home. Her career began under Larry Forgione before working in several Los Angeles, New York and France-based restaurant chains. In the end, she was the head chef of Butter. Guarnaschelli was a competitor against Cat Cora on Food Network's Iron Chef America 2007 Farmers Market Battle. She is now a judge of the program. Guarnaschelli also participated in The Next Iron Chef in season 4 in 2011. She also competed with Food Network's Food Network Challenge Ultimate Thanksgiving Feast episode but was eliminated from the competition.
